A lesson once learned.

When I was 7, I went to the beach and found the most beautiful starfish in the world. I loved it, wanted to keep it forever, and so I took it home with me.
We kept it in a bucket of water and it looked lonely– out of place. After a few days, it died; it couldn’t live in our home no matter how much I loved it and wanted it to survive because it belonged to the ocean.
When we go to somewhere, we can admire and love all the beauty surrounding and encompassing the place, but we cannot bring it home with us– all must remain. We have to appreciate the beauty of things as they are and leave them be so they can continue being beautiful, always. This way when we miss it badly enough, it is still there and we can go back.
